Myobrace® in Katonah, NY

Orthodontic treatment such as traditional metal braces are very effective, but can be cumbersome. A newer method for straightening teeth is now available with Myobrace®. This is a preventive pre-orthodontic treatment that, unlike other treatments that utilize wires or aligners, often goes without the use of braces or the need to extract teeth. It can be found at Golden’s Bridge Family Dentistry and is best suited for children aged 3 to 15 in Katonah, NY .

What does the Myobrace® treatment do?

While other orthodontic treatments correct the crooked teeth themselves, Myobrace® addresses the underlying causes of crooked teeth. Myobrace®:

  • Corrects poor oral habits
  • Develops and aligns the jaws
  • Straightens the teeth
  • Optimizes facial development
  • Promotes healthy eating habits

How does Myobrace® work?

The Myobrace® system focuses on the underlying causes of crooked teeth before all of the permanent teeth have come in. It helps the child:

  • Breathe through the nose
  • Correct tongue resting position
  • Swallow correctly
  • Keep the lips together

This is done by using a series of removable intra-oral appliances. By addressing these issues, the Myobrace® System unlocks natural growth and development.

The treatment stages

Myobrace® treatment typically consists of four stages: habit correction, arch development, dental alignment, and retention. In the first stage of Myobrace® treatment, habit correction, the patient will develop better oral habits such as breathing through the nose instead of the mouth, swallowing the right way, and keeping the lips together when not eating or speaking. The second stage of treatment is arch development. It is not always required, but it helps to widen the upper jaw, creating sufficient space for the teeth and tongue. Once the last of the permanent teeth are erupting, the third stage of the Myobrace® treatment can begin. In this stage, it is very important to diligently use the Myobrace® removable appliances – they must be worn every day (for one to two hours) and overnight while sleeping. Some patients will require additional alignment using braces.

With other orthodontic treatments, a retainer is usually required to maintain the new position of the teeth. With the Myobrace® treatment, a permanent retainer is usually not required, provided that good oral habits are maintained.
